How to Share One Window in Microsoft Teams
To share one window in Microsoft Teams, select Share in the meeting controls, find the Window section, and choose the application you want the audience to see. Teams adds a visible border around the shared window.
Window sharing is safer than sharing the desktop because unrelated apps stay outside the feed. It does not hide private information inside the selected window, so prepare that app first.
Share one window in the Teams desktop app
Join the meeting and open the app you plan to present. Select Share in the meeting controls. Under Window, choose the correct application thumbnail. Confirm the colored outline appears around that window before you begin.
Keep the app open and avoid closing it mid-presentation. If you need a different app, stop sharing and start a new window share rather than switching to the whole desktop for convenience.
Teams on the web and macOS
Teams on the web uses the browser sharing picker. Choose Window, then select the app. Your browser and operating system may use slightly different labels, but the privacy rule stays the same: choose the application, not the full screen.
On macOS, Teams or your browser needs Screen and System Audio Recording permission before it can present. Grant permission through System Settings only when macOS asks, then return to the meeting and select the window again.
What viewers can and cannot see
Viewers see the selected window and changes inside it. They do not normally see other app windows, your desktop, or the Teams chat panel unless those become part of the selected surface.
They can still see tab titles, account menus, notifications drawn inside the app, customer names, and anything you open in that window. Window sharing narrows the frame. It does not clean the frame.
Prepare the app before selecting it
Close private documents, switch to the correct account, hide sidebars, and remove personal bookmarks. Turn on Do Not Disturb in Teams and the operating system. Blur sensitive fields that must remain visible.

- Close chat, email, and admin panels inside it.
- Select Window in the sharing picker.
- Verify the outline and ask a colleague to confirm the first frame.
